About The Author

 

I’m Evan Sutter. I'm a happiness coach, mindset coach and mental health and wellbeing coach. I’m a keynote speaker, social entrepreneur, surfer, ocean swimmer, ultra-runner, ultra-SUPPER, and lover of simplicity. I was once an egoistic hedonist who only found solace in alcohol, drugs, parties, sex and superficial relationships. Things changed in 2013 when my monk brother, living in Thich Nhat Hanh’s Plum Village in France, boldly challenged me to visit him. Living in a run-down hut in the monastery introduced me to a new way of living. It challenged the status quo, shook my habits, bashed my ego, trampled my perspectives, and forced me to reconsider if my direction in life was really making me happier. I solo-travelled the world delving deeper with every adventure, getting comfortable being lost, connecting to my values, softening my sharp edges, slowing my ruminating mind, questioning my why, and opening my heart. I’ve failed many (many) times, but I’ve learnt that it is not about always being perfect or always being happy, but maybe it is more about having a full life. And with a full, engaged, and interested life it is inevitable that we will suffer - what’s more important is having the skills and tools to still enjoy life when we do. And, that’s why I wrote Awake.
